When it comes to any cosmetic surgery procedure, one of the first questions a patient should ask themselves is what are the risks of this surgery. Unfortunately, not enough patients actually do this, which is sad, as they can unknowingly be placing themselves at danger. Therefore, this article is going to focus on the risks of liposuction.

Obviously, the most severe risk of this surgery is death. Yes, that is right. People have been known to die on the operating table while undergoing this surgery.

Along with death, another potential risk of liposuction is a bad reaction to the anesthesia being used. The fact is, each year, many people will suffer from an overdose of an anesthetic (such as lidocaine, which is used in liposuction surgery). These overdoes can lead to heart issues and in some instances, death.

Before we continue, we want to point out that our intent is not to scare you away from this surgery. Instead, we want to make sure you are educated about the potential risks.

The third potential liposuction complication is an embolism. This can occur when the particles of fat get trapped in the blood stream, resulting in a blockage of blood to the tissues. The unfortunate result of this complication can be permanent disability.

The last potential liposuction risk is infection. If it makes you feel better, infection can occur during any surgery where a break is created in the patient’s skin. Usually, a cosmetic surgeon will write the patient a script for antibiotics to minimize the chances of infection setting in.

After reading this section, we hope that we did not scare you from proceeding with surgery. If you want to go through it, we highly recommend you ask the surgeon about the procedures he or she takes to minimize the possibility of these complications occurring.

For more information, we encourage you to take a few minutes and review the Liposuction Fort Worth Guide.
