There isn’t anything about stretch marks that should make you embarrassed or ashamed. There are many people all over the world who have them and they can come about for a number of reasons. Often it is pregnancy however it can also be through rapid weight loss and weight gain. Many people think it’s just women who have this problem however men can fall victim too.

If you want to know what treatment you should have in order to get rid of your stretch marks, you need to first of all decide what type you have. If you have red stretch marks then it’s because they are pretty young.  However if you have silvery stretch marks then they are much older.

The older your stretch marks are the more problematic it will be to treat them successfully.  There are many treatments on the market including vitamin C, cocoa butter and wheat germ oil.  These treatments may well work for those who are looking to prevent stretch marks or want to get rid of new ones however it won’t work for everyone.

Those with the older silvery marks are going to have to look at something a bit more “heavy duty,” such as laser, microdermabrasion and also the derma roller.

Laser and microdermabrasion are both treatments you might have heard about before.  However the derma roller is a relative new-comer to the beauty industry.  At first glance the device might look like some torture treatment but in reality it’s not that bad.

Basically is a roller with fine needles that gently puncture the skin.  You can have the treatment carried out at certain beauty salons or you can do it at home yourself.  The idea is that when the skin is punctured, your body’s own collagen production is increased.  Also, the holes allow other topical treatments to be absorbed into the skin better.

If you are still utterly confused about treatments for your stretch marks, go to a dermatologist so that he or she can inspect your skin to give you a better idea of what to do.  You certainly don’t want to waste your time on treatments and products that aren’t suitable for your needs.
